Project: SNMP
Client: Kanoon Software Inc., USA
The project's requirement was to develop a Simple Networking Management Protocol that would enable easy communication between managers and agents, the two primary elements of a Network Management System. Communication served the purpose of accessing the objects arranged in the virtual information database. These objects could be hardware, configuration parameters or performance statistics that are present in network servers or hubs or routers etc.
In developing the SNMP, we included very minimal set of management commands and responses to make it as simple as possible. The management systems issues Get, GetNext and Set messages to retrieve single or multiple object variables or to establish the value of a single variable. The managed agent sends a response message to complete the commands. Then an event notification namely Trap is sent to identify the occurrence of conditions such as threshold that exceeds a predetermined value.
